In March 2015 the new Waste Act (79/2015) was adopted by the Parliament. The new Waste Act prohibits municipalities from contracting entities other than compliance organisations for separately collected waste and restricts municipalities to contracting only one compliance organisation (“one municipality = one contract”).
This new Waste Act partly transposes the Recast WEEE Directive.
In April 2015 the Ministry of Environment released seven draft decrees for consultation. These include a Draft Ministerial Decree on EPR and management of product waste streams, providing common registration, authorisation and reporting requirements for all four product streams (WEEE, waste batteries, packaging and end-of-life vehicles).
