The new WEEE Regulation (No. 42/14) was published on 2 April 2014 and entered into force the same day. The new Regulation contains detailed provisions concerning, inter alia, WEEE collection as well as individual compliance. The latter will ultimately grant Producers wishing to self-fulfil their WEEE obligations exemptions from fee payments to EPEEF under certain conditions.
Collective compliance, on the other hand, is not foreseen and thus not a compliance option, as the existing concessions (agreements between the Ministry, EPEEF, WEEE collectors and treatment operators) are valid up to 2017 (for WEEE collection) and 2022 (for the treatment of WEEE)].
Photovoltaic panels are placed under category 4.
EPEEF is the Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency Fund (EPEEF) on import of goods and plays also the role of WEEE Register.
